Resolved Question: Why are Democrats alienating voters with abortion?

Until recently, I agreed with the Democrats on nearly every issue. I believed that healthcare was a right and that we need to invest more money in our schools, infrastructure, and towns. I thought that global warming was a pressing issue and the rich needed to be taxed more. But I always voted Republican, down the line, because I refuse to vote for a candidate that will allow children to be killed. I know that God would send me straight to hell if I vote for a child-killer, ever. I've recently realized my left-wing economic beliefs were stupid after reading Milton Friedman's and F.A. Hayek's books. But I think that left-wing economics are far more palatable to everyday Americans than abortion, which is the killing of innocent human life and goes against all tenets of Christianity. Democrats, why were you stupid enough to promote abortion? It's caused you to lose countless elections in middle America. FDR won states like Kansas and Nebraska despite his ultra-left-wing economic stances because he didn't support abortion. @Ding Fries: Nice use of a straw man argument. @Joshua: Why not get rid of welfare too?
